Arrington, Simoneau miss morning workouts

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton told the media on Wednesday morning that WR Adrian Arrington and LB Mark Simoneau missed the workout with injuries. Find out why they missed and what other players were limited right here.

New Orleans Saints WR Adrian Arrington, who impressed coaches with his first week of workouts at training camp, missed Wednesday morning's workout with turf toe, one of a half-dozen Saints that sat out practice at Metairie, La., according to head coach Sean Payton.

Arrington spent time on a stationary bike during the workout, and Payton wasn't sure when Arrington would return to the field. Given his impressive showing in the early days of training camp, Payton was a bit disappointed by Arrington's absence.

"For a young player, it's always challenging when you're injured because you're missing time and you're missing opportunities to prove yourself," Payton said. "Hopefully we get him back soon enough to see where he's at."

LB Mark Simoneau, locked in a battle at middle linebacker with Jonathan Vilma, sat out the workout with back soreness, and Payton expected him to miss the afternoon workout as well.

TE Jeremy Shockey is getting close to working out fully with the team, said Payton. He is still rehabbing his injuries from last season.

DT Hollis Thomas strained a triceps at the beginning of the workout and sat out the rest of the practice. Payton wasn't sure if Thomas would return for the afternoon workout.

S Josh Bullocks (knee) also missed the workout. WR David Patten had a free pass for the morning workout, with Payton saying his absence was "age, nothing more."

The Saints worked out against the Houston Texans on Tuesday in preparation for Saturday's preseason game against the Texans at the Louisiana Superdome.

"Typically in game two we'll go a little bit further with that first group," Payton said. "Whether or not it's to the half will really depend on the reps they're getting. Last week, the offense had more reps than the defense so we kept the defense out a little longer."
