With a big roster bonus looming, the Vikings released WR Michael Jenkins Monday.

The Vikings have released receiver Michael Jenkins.

Jenkins was scheduled to make $825,000 in base salary but was due a $2.425 million roster bonus in March on a deal that he renegotiated last August. That bonus prompted his release, saving the Vikings $3.25 million in salary-cap space.

"Thanks for all the support from skol nation," Jenkins tweeted Monday. "God has a plan and something bigger is on the way."

The Vikings are expected to search for receiver help in free agency or the draft, or both.

Jenkins signed a three-year deal with the Vikings after the lockout ended in 2011. Despite the Vikings' need for a big outside receiver over the last two years – ever since losing Sidney Rice in free agency – Jenkins started only 15 games and caught 78 passes for 915 yards and five touchdowns in his two seasons with the Vikings.
