Coug Bucannon a Thorpe Award semifinalist

AND THEN THERE were 15 that remained. Washington State senior safety Deone Bucannon has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to the top defensive back in college football. The preseason watchlist of the nation's best defensive backs had numbered 48 headed into the 2013 campaign.

Bucannon leads the Pac-12 with 73 tackles and is tied for second with four interceptions.

He also owns team-high marks of three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Headed into Thursday's game against ASU, Bucannon is tied for fourth in WSU history with 343 career tackles and 13 career interceptions.

Bucannon is the first Cougar to be named a Jim Thorpe semifinalist since Jason David in 2003.
